## Pick by what you need

- [A free plan before you pay](#rank-1) Amazon Polly Free, then $4 per 1m characters
- [Developers building speech features into applications, devices](#rank-2) Google Cloud Text-to-Speech Free, then $4 per 1m characters
- [Ranked third](#rank-3) TTSFree Free, then $5 a month
- [Developers and creators turning written scripts into spoken audio](#rank-4) Unreal Speech Free, then $49 a month
- [Ranked fifth](#rank-5) Speechma Free, then $1.50 a month

Amazon Polly covers two hours of speech for $0 a month on the AWS Free Tier with its Standard voices. Google Cloud Text-to-Speech, TTSFree and Unreal Speech also reach two hours at $0 a month. After those four, the cheapest path to two hours is Speechma's SpeechmaPRO at $1.50 a month.

The two cloud services at the top are for developers. Both meter paid use at $4 per 1m characters and both have an API. TTSFree says its free tier needs no signup, and Speechma says it needs no account. Unreal Speech is free for two hours too, but its paid plans start at $49 a month.

For cloning, Voicv says it clones a voice from a 10-30 second sample, and MiniMax Audio says it offers 10-second cloning. Speechma and Luvvoice also say they clone voices. Past Speechma, two hours cost $1.95 a month on Luvvoice's Standard Pack S, $3.33 a month on TTSReader, $4.32 a month on Voicv, $5 a month on Voicemaker and $5.12 a month on MiniMax Audio.

Start with Polly or Google if the speech goes into an app. For voice-over in a browser at no cost, begin with TTSFree. Pick Voicv or MiniMax Audio when the job is your own cloned voice and $4.32 a month or $5.12 a month for two hours is acceptable.

## How we ranked

The ten products are ordered by what two hours of speech a month cost on the plan named in each verdict, cheapest first. Where a plan counts characters or words, an hour is 52,000 characters or 9,300 words. Four products reach two hours for $0 a month, so price alone does not separate them. Every product here publishes a price, so none is marked quote only.

Before buying, run one of your own scripts through the free plan and see how many characters it counts. Then check what the plan does once you pass its allowance.
